Physical description: Mike is tall but not overly so (around 6'1), muscular in the wiry way that comes from fighting rather than from the gym. He has brown hair, blue eyes, and is fairly nondescript except for the way his right eye flashes red in the right light; this is because it is actually bionic, replacing the one he lost in an explosion on Nanashi. The same explosion took his right leg slightly above the knee, which is now also a metallic prosthetic. You would never know this to look at him, though; he can walk and run normally and wears clothes that hide it effectively. Faint, pale scars surround his right eye socket and are scattered here and there on the right side of his body.

Job: Mike used to be a peacekeeper. Now he's "retired", deals primarily in arms but isn't above a little drug trafficking now and then, or even shadier things. Basically whatever buys him fuel, his next drink, and maybe a few hours in The Scarlett Room.

Wealth: Spikes now and then depending on what he manages to steal and sell, but overall he's short of cash most of the time, usually because of the speed at which he spends it.

Personal History

Mike was born on Oublié to a family that wasn't wealthy enough to educate him much past what he needed to be a peacekeeper. He joined the academy on Miranda and was fairly good at it for almost a decade, until he got greedy and got sucked into assisting certain individuals with the movement of some large quantities of weapons from Nanashi to Miranda. The plan was discovered, other peacekeepers intervened, and there was a firefight which led to the explosion of ten crates of ammunition, costing Mike his leg and eye. While in the hospital on Miranda he was investigated by Internal Affairs, court-martialed, and dishonorably discharged. Since then he's been making money however he can, usually with the very crime that cost him his job and old life. He views the police force as having betrayed him by denying him leniency despite his extensive injuries and harbors a special hatred for it.

Psych Analysis

Maybe once Mike was a nice guy. Those days are over; there's no room for nice in his current occupation. He's angry at authority, angry at those better off than him, angry at those with two good legs and two good eyes. He feels cheated out of a comfortable life and at the same time rejects the very idea of anything approaching a comfortable life and is scornful of those who aspire to it. He doesn't trust anyone but his shuttle and doesn't much like anyone else either. He's materially greedy and at the same time values a spartan existence with few material ties, because he knows very well how fast things can be taken away from you. And deep down, maybe he wants to be better again. Maybe he's just waiting for the right time.

Condition: Beat up, with armor plates just sort of haphazardly attached. Lots of parts replaced or put together from other parts. Some parts more new than others, but basically the whole thing is one big patch-job. It looks like it's held together with spit and duct tape, because it is.

Size: Big enough for one person to live in fairly comfortably. There's a cockpit, small kitchen and eating area, sitting area, bathroom, and a bunk. The bed is conveniently big enough for two. There are various crawl spaces that provide access to the shuttle's systems, and a very cramped engine room. There's also a cargo bay, though it's not big enough to carry anything much larger than a compact car.

Mike loves her more than any woman he's ever met, because, true to the archetype, she's never let him down. Except when she has, but we don't talk about those times. Upsets her.
